In their latest Trusted Saskatoon window and door tip, they explain bow vs bay windows.

BOW VS BAY WINDOWS

Bow and bay windows are both popular window styles that add beauty, architectural interest, and functionality to a home. While they may appear similar, there are some key differences between the two:

1. Shape and Configuration:

   - Bay Windows: Bay windows typically consist of three individual windows arranged at angles, forming a polygonal or square shape. The central window is usually larger and fixed, while the flanking windows are smaller and operable, allowing for ventilation.

   - Bow Windows: Bow windows, on the other hand, consist of four or more individual windows arranged in a curved or gently angled formation. The windows are typically of equal size and are often operable, providing more ventilation options compared to bay windows.

2. Appearance:

   - Bay Windows: Bay windows create a more angular and pronounced projection from the exterior of the home. They often feature a larger central window that serves as a focal point and provides expansive views. The angular design of bay windows can lend a more contemporary or modern aesthetic to a home.

   - Bow Windows: Bow windows have a more gentle and curved appearance, offering a softer and more flowing silhouette. The curved design of bow windows gives them a more traditional or classic look that can add elegance and charm to a home's architecture.

3. Interior Space and Functionality:

   - Bay Windows: Bay windows create a nook or alcove within the interior of the home, providing additional usable space. The larger central window can be a great spot for a window seat, display area, or reading corner. The side windows in bay windows offer more flexibility for airflow and ventilation.

   - Bow Windows: Bow windows also provide additional interior space, but the curved design allows for a more panoramic view and a sense of openness. The multiple windows in bow windows create a wider viewing area and can make the room feel more spacious and airy.

4. Installation and Cost:

   - Bay Windows: Bay windows tend to be more complex and require a slightly more extensive installation process due to their angular design. This can affect the overall cost of installation compared to other window styles.

   - Bow Windows: Bow windows, with their curved structure, can be more challenging to install compared to traditional flat windows. They typically require custom-built frames and precise measurements, which can increase the installation cost.

Ultimately, the choice between bow and bay windows depends on your personal preferences, the architectural style of your home, and the desired functionality. Both styles offer unique benefits and can significantly enhance the appearance and value of your home. It's recommended to consult with a window professional or contractor who can assess your specific needs and guide you in selecting the most suitable option for your home.

How Entry Doors Increase Curb Appeal ByTrusted Saskatoon Window and Door Experts at 101 Doors and Windows

The dedicated team at 101 Doors and Windows believes that knowledge and experience matter. They have many years of experience in the Saskatchewan construction industry and they choose to specialize in windows and doors. They are a hands-on company that works directly with clients and manufacturers to ensure a great experience, as such they offer fast, friendly, and knowledgeable service. 101 Doors and Windows are Trusted Saskatoon Door & Window Experts!

In their latest Trusted Saskatoon window and door tip, they share how entry doors increase curb appeal.

ENTRY DOORS INCREASE CURB APPEAL

Investing in high-quality entry doors for your home can indeed increase its value. Here are several reasons why entry doors are considered a valuable investment:

1. Enhanced Curb Appeal: The entry door is one of the first elements visitors notice when approaching your home. A visually appealing and well-maintained entry door can significantly enhance the curb appeal and overall attractiveness of your property. This positive first impression can make your home more appealing to potential buyers and increase its perceived value.

2. Improved Energy Efficiency: Upgrading to energy-efficient entry doors can help reduce energy consumption and lower utility bills. Modern doors often feature better insulation, weather-stripping, and improved seals, minimizing drafts and heat transfer. Homebuyers appreciate energy-efficient features, and having efficient entry doors can be seen as a value-added feature.

3. Enhanced Security: Entry doors serve as a critical barrier between your home and the outside world. Investing in high-quality doors that are designed with security features, such as sturdy materials, advanced locking mechanisms, and reinforced frames, can provide a greater sense of security. This can be an attractive selling point for potential buyers concerned about safety.

4. Durability and Low Maintenance: Entry doors made of durable materials, such as fiberglass, steel, or solid wood, are known for their longevity and resistance to weather elements, warping, rotting, or fading. These low-maintenance doors require less upkeep and can retain their aesthetic appeal for many years. Buyers appreciate features that require minimal maintenance and provide long-term value.

5. Sound Insulation: Entry doors with good sound insulation properties can create a quieter and more peaceful indoor environment. Thick, solid doors can help reduce noise from outside, such as traffic, neighbours, or other disturbances. This can be particularly appealing if your home is located in a noisy area or near busy streets.

6. Increased Home Security: Upgrading to entry doors with advanced security features, such as multi-point locking systems, reinforced frames, or impact-resistant glass, can significantly enhance the security of your home. Potential buyers may perceive this as a valuable investment, knowing that their future home is equipped with enhanced security measures.

7. Positive Return on Investment (ROI): According to various studies and industry experts, investing in high-quality entry doors can provide a positive return on investment. Upgrading to a new, attractive, and functional entry door can increase the overall value of your home, allowing you to recoup a significant portion of your investment when selling.

When choosing entry doors to increase home value, consider selecting a style and design that complements the overall architecture and aesthetics of your home. It's also essential to consult with professionals or trusted suppliers who can guide you in selecting doors that meet your specific needs and provide the best value for your investment.

Sunview Windows and Doors Tip on Patio Door Ideas and Options

We strive to be your local experts when it comes to windows and doors. We also want to share our passion for our products with you too, so now we have a Sunview blog to do just that!

In this article, you will learn about new options and patio door ideas for attractive, functional doors.

Patio Doors

Your outdoor living space is an extension of your home, and that is why you’ll want to consider a variety of options and patio door ideas before finalizing your project.

One of the most common patio door options is the French patio door. This style incorporates glass window panes in the door, allowing an unobstructed view from the home’s interior to the outside space and vice versa. It can create a natural transition from the inside to the patio. French patio doors are usually available in wood, fibreglass and PVC, and they can be configured as either swinging or sliding doors.

Sliding Patio Doors

Whereas French patio doors are a more traditional approach, contemporary sliding doors have a more modern look. These doors offer greater simplicity in that they create no obstacles at all to furniture placement, inside or out. Patios are generally gathering places for family and friends, and when lots of people are involved, a traditionally open and close door can be a hindrance to entering and exiting. Just ask anyone who’s tried to carry a tray of appetizers through a traditional door while a gaggle of toddlers is racing in or out. For this reason, and because they can add a modern, elegant design element to connect your outdoor and indoor space, sliding patio doors are a popular option.

In the past, sliding patio doors were heavier and had a reputation for getting stuck in their tracks or misaligned. Modern sliding patio doors generally offer a much slimmer, more contemporary look, and the problems of sticking and misalignment have been lessened. Because of the lighter materials, these new designs generally offer a larger, less obstructed viewing area as well.

Folding Patio Door

Designed with three or more panels, these doors fold upon opening and slide on a track, similar to sliding doors. Folding patio doors can create a unique visual aesthetic and are often a good fit for more modern patio designs.

Whatever option you prefer the look of, you need to ensure that it will work for your home and your family… that's where we come in! The Sunview Windows and Doors team are skilled professionals. Our goal is to provide the best possible experience from beginning to end!

They are a hands-on company that works directly with clients and manufacturers to ensure a great experience, as such they offer fast, friendly, and knowledgeable service. 101 Doors and Windows are Trusted Saskatoon Door & Window Experts!

In their first Trusted Saskatoon window and door tip, they share some of their favourite projects.

101 Door & Window Project Showcase

2016 Hospital Home Lottery Home

2016 Grand Prize Show Home at 422 Greenbyre Lane

This Prairie Contemporary Styled Home with a Mid Century Modern Interior included over 3,700 sq ft of developed living space.

101 Doors & Windows supplied exterior and interior windows, doors, mouldings, hardware, and locks. Interior doors were semi-custom 7’ high as opposed to standard 6’8 or 8’. All done in rift-cut white oak doors with opposing directional veneer patterns.

2017 Hospital Home Lottery Home

This door request was brought to the 101 Doors & Windows team by the designer with just a picture that she had. This is not a production door that anyone makes, so they had one of our suppliers draw it up and build it.

The door came out beautifully exactly as requested on time and on budget. 101 also provided all of the hardware and trims in this spectacular home.

2018 Hospital Home Lottery Home

101 worked on this third lottery home for a local home builder, the third in three years. They were looking for something simple, sleek, and ultra-contemporary so 101 made this door just a single vertical line and it looks fantastic with the Barcelona oil rubbed bronze knobs in this mid-century designed Saskatoon lottery home.

10' x 8' custom Master Suite Door

The 101 Doors & Windows team built a unique door in this master bedroom separating bath and bedroom areas. It was a very challenging and heavy door, 10' x 8' powder-coated metal all on one rolling track so there is no obstruction on the floor. It turned about amazingly well!

For this client, they also replaced windows the overhead garage door, and a front entry door pre-finished with auto body quality paint finish. We think you will agree that the curb appeal is on point!

"Hi Tom, we are very pleased with the service you provide. It is very personal and professional. I have always felt you looked out for my best interests and that is a very rare thing these days. Thank you."
