Razor Heating and A/C is Saskatoon's trusted choice for everything from a whole house renovation, to the mechanical needs of your dream home, to simple preventative maintenance on your existing home's mechanical system.

Jeff, and Dustin, believe that the most important bit of advice anyone can give to you when it comes to hiring an HVAC contractor is to check their referrals and recommendations. They walk the walk - On Facebook, they have 78 x 5* star reviews and, combined with over 175 Google reviews at an average 4.9* rating, it's clear they are continually impressing their customers! Let's face it, not many contractors achieve that consistently great feedback and impressive review score!

Here are some examples to showcase - if you take the time to look at their online reviews you will notice the comments are echoed time and again throughout their customer testimonials.

Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value

“We have been using Razor for a few years. They are always professional, on time, and have decent pricing. They fixed the wrongdoings of other companies and repaired and replaced the parts needed. They explained it all before and after. Even how to maintain it. Best service we’ve had. “- Tim Sharpe

“Had our Boiler/heating system for the house go down over the weekend. Razor was able to get us up and running again in less than 2 hours! This also included a rundown of how the system functioned, how we can maintain it and things to watch out for. This work was also done on a weekend after hours when most/all suppliers are closed for a boiler that needed a universal part since the boiler is older and not very common. Can't say thank you enough. I would recommend Razor Heating and A/C Ltd. to anyone who needed work done!” Shane Johnson

Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Responsiveness, Value

“ Razor Heating replaced our furnace and did a great job so I did not hesitate to call them about our garage heater venting issue. Jeff took the time to talk to me and understand my concerns. I really appreciated his recommendation for the repair that would bring our garage heater venting up to the current code. He provided a quote and it included detailed information.  The technicians were professional and introduced themselves and completed the repairs in a timely matter.Paul Malbeuf

Meet the Razor Heating and AC Team

Their path to entrepreneurship started in early 2007.

Dustin, the guy behind Razor’s social media shares his journey…

“I began my career in late spring of 1999 with a local HVAC service and installation company here in Saskatoon. This is where I completed my apprenticeship in Plumber/Gas fitter. I gained a wealth of knowledge in my time there through apprenticeship training along with real world scenarios on the job site. In early spring of 2007 Razor Heating & A/C Ltd. started to get in the works. Jeff and I opened our doors in our first location by the airport. Within 5 years we had outgrown that  location and purchased our own place in the north east  of Saskatoon within the industrial area close to Silverwood. Aside from every aspect of running the business I enjoy time spend with friends and family outdoors. Especially sharing everything I enjoyed as a child with my son Nash. Everything from fishing, snowmobiling, quading, biking and projects around the house. Thanks for everything friends and family!!!!!“ - Dustin Shaw
Co-owner Jeff had this to say.
“ I am a journeyman plumber and general gas fitter and I’ve been in the trade since 1998l. I love the daily challenges owning a business brings,  as well as interacting with all the customers and our awesome employees. In my  spare time I spend time fishing- (lake, fly and salt water fishing) ,   snowmobiling, and I treasure time at the lake with my wife Amanda and our three kids. “ Jeff Rewerts

Their longest-serving employee is Laura Slugowski. Jeff and Dustin explain that she is the glue that keeps the place running as smoothly as it does. Laura was indentured into the trade in early 2010 and completed her journeyperson plumber and general gas fitter in 2013. More recently she shifted into the office taking the role of office manager. Laura is the friendly helpful voice on the phone, she provides superior service to customers calling in as she truly understands the issues you may be facing and can provide her expert assistance to help troubleshoot from the 1st interaction you have with the company!

A word from Sara, the Trusted Saskatoon founder, about her personal experience with Razor.

“Razor has a wonderful reputation in the city, not just with the hundreds of happy and loyal customers they have serviced over the years, but also within the contractor community itself. They are respected for both their expertise and the fact that they can always be counted on to show up and do awesome work every time. In all honesty, nothing much has changed at Razor since I first met Jeff and Dustin in 2012, they have the same commitment to excellence and the same drive to be the best they can be!
I guess the most obvious difference is the change in facial hair from that first picture in 2007! Dustin’s beard has become part of the Razor brand!

My family has hired Razor on a number of occasions over the last 10 years, and my partner Kim ( who is very hard to please ), has always been impressed with their work and we both appreciate their honest expert advice. The guys are very humble, so I want to take this opportunity to shine a spotlight on them and to say how proud we are at Trusted Saskatoon to have such an integrity-driven team as part of our community. The trade has a lot of negativity surrounding it, I have heard so many stories of nightmare jobs and companies leaving consumers in an awful mess with bad quality work. In fact, I started Trusted becuase I was ripped off by a big plumbing company right here in Saskatoon. I know that Jeff & Dustin spend a lot of their time fixing others shoddy work, and that they truly care about their reputation, their customers, their partners and their team. They contiue to get a big thumbs up from me!" - Sara Wheelwright - Trusted Saskatoon Founder.

Trusted Saskatoon Furnace & Duct Cleaners at Bridge City Explain Air Duct Cleaning

Trusted Saskatoon Furnace & Duct Cleaners Bridge City Duct Cleaning provides both residential duct cleaning and commercial duct cleaning and furnace maintenance services. Their team is professionally trained, qualified, bonded, and factory furnace and duct cleaning technicians. In their latest article, they discuss how air duct cleaning is done.

HOW AIR DUCT CLEANING IS DONE

You’ve seen the signs that your Air Ducts need cleaning, but now are you wondering how air duct cleaning is done? What do you need to be prepared for?

The Steps To How Air Duct Cleaning is Done

Step 1: Inspect The Air Ducts

A simple, visual inspection of the ducts leading to the return and supply registers is important for two reasons. First, it’s a step that you can take yourself to assess the level of buildup in the ducts beforehand and confirm the difference after they’ve been cleaned.

Second, a professional duct cleaning is an opportunity for Bridge City Duct Cleaning to check the ductwork for leaks or, in the case of flexible ducts, kinks. It is also a good time to repair and replace damaged ductwork.

Step 2: Create Negative Pressure

Bridge City Duct Cleaning uses large, portable or truck-mounted vacuum collection devices to suck dust and debris out of your ductwork. However, before turning on the suction and scrubbing the ducts, the technicians must perform preliminary steps.

  • First, they hook the vacuum collection device’s large hose to a duct close to the air handler—the heart of your HVAC system. The technician cuts an access hole in the duct, inserts the vacuum hose, and seals where they join as tightly as possible.
(Note that your HVAC system has a supply and a return side—ducts that send treated air into the rooms of the house, and ducts that return air to the air handler. The supply and return sides are separate, and the duct cleaning process is performed on each.)
    • Next, the technician will seal each register with an adhesive cover. This is an important step because even an extremely powerful vacuum collection device will not work if the registers in each room of the house are uncovered.
    • Once the technician finishes these steps, they turn on the vacuum unit. This step creates negative pressure, and particles inside the ductwork will be sucked into the collection device as they are brushed or blown loose.

    Step 3: Agitate The Dust

Once the system is under negative pressure, the technician uncovers each register and cleans each duct. Technicians use rotating brushes, compressed air tools, and simple vacuum cleaners to ensure dust is dislodged and sucked into the vacuum collection device.

Step 4: Clean The Rest Of The System

It is recommended to clean the other components of the HVAC system as well, including the air handler’s blower motor, evaporator coil, and drain pan.

Cleaning these components, along with cleaning or changing the filter, will improve the air quality in your home as well as extend the life and increase the efficiency of your HVAC system.

A Bridge City Duct Cleaning technician will perform the job thoroughly and carefully, ensuring that your ductwork winds up clean and undamaged. A thorough cleaning should take three to five hours and this is how your air ducts are cleaned.

In their latest tip, they review how to save on your natural gas bill. Gibbon Heating and Air Conditioning are TRUSTED SASKATOON Air Conditioning & Furnace Professionals.

SAVE MONEY ON YOUR NATURAL GAS BILL

Natural gas is an important part of Canada’s energy resources. More than six million Canadians use natural gas to light, heat and cool homes and businesses, to heat water, and for cooking.  Many Canadians have higher natural gas bills than they would like.

    Check for Aging Equipment

If you are running an old, inefficient boiler or heating system, it may be wasting much of the energy it produces. It may never have had top-notch efficiency, to begin with, or it may have lost some capability with time and wear.

    Blocked Vents and Impeded Airflow

The arrangement of the furniture and appliances in your home may block vents and restrict airflow. In this case, your natural gas heating system is likely working overtime because it’s much more difficult to heat your home to a comfortable temperature.

    Lower the Thermostat

Especially in the winter, when gas bills soar, lowering the thermostat by even a couple of degrees can make a difference in your bill, helping you save as much as 5 to 10%. If lowering the heat would make your home uncomfortable in the evenings, try reducing the temperature only at night, or during the day if family members are at work.

    Invest in a Smart Thermostat

Have Gibbon Heating and Air Conditioning recommend a smart thermostat for your home. You can program a smart thermostat to adjust the heat to your particular schedule, so you won’t be heating or cooling your house even when no one’s home or everyone’s snuggled in bed.

    Turn Down the Water Heater

Some homes’ water heaters are set as high as 140 degrees, but most people don’t need their water that hot. To help save money on your gas bill, check your water heater and see if you can turn the temperature down while still allowing for comfortable showers and warm water for dishes.

Keep Doors and Windows Closed During the Winter and Open During the Cool Summer Nights

Along the same lines, be sure to keep doors and windows closed when your natural gas heating system is running. Opening windows and doors is great for cooling off a hot house on summer evenings, but in the colder seasons, it will let valuable heat escape.

    Bundle Up

Especially in the winter, wearing extra layers helps keep your thermostat settings low and your gas bills reasonable. If you’re wearing a sweater or some cozy flannel pants, you may not even notice that you’ve turned the thermostat down a few degrees. And using extra blankets or down comforters can help keep you warm at night when your thermostat is in its energy-saving mode.

    Natural Gas Check-Up

Have Gibbon Heating & Air Condition do a check-up on your plumbing, air conditioning and furnace. The check-up may show you how to save money on your Natural Gas Bill.

A warning for consumers about fraud in the furnace and air conditioning industry in Saskatoon

JOB Heating & Air Conditioning’s wonderful staff will be more than happy to provide you with an estimate for any home comfort improvement that you have in mind. They also offer training classes at your personal site for maintenance and they also offer home heating tune-ups. JOB are Trusted Saskatoon Furnace experts and they can also help you with all your Saskatoon plumbing needs! In this Saskatoon HVAC article,  Jeff Bolton, owner of JOB, highlights how important it is to be aware of scams in the Saskatoon air-conditioning and furnace marketplace.

JEFF FROM JOB WARNS AGAINST FRAUD IN SASKATOON’S HVAC INDUSTRY

The feeling of being ripped off is horrible, and I count myself fortunate that I haven’t been the victim of fraud very much in my life. However,  I am sad to say that I deal with victims of contractor fraud too often in Saskatoon.  In my latest article, I share another example that happened recently, as I want to educate consumers on what to look out for.- Jeff , owner of JOB

    Fraud takes many different forms

I was recently at a lady’s home to provide a quote to replace the furnace and air conditioner. Her house was the same as most other homes in our city,  in fact she lives just  4 blocks away from my family. She invited me in and we exchanged pleasantries,  then I asked her the burning question that had been top of mind since I pulled up outside.  Why was she requesting a quote for a new home comfort system in a house that was no more than 12 years old?

She explained that the night before her furnace had stopped working. This was especially an issue as the overnight temperature in Saskatoon had dropped to about  -30C. Unfortunately, she was unaware that JOB offers 24-hour emergency service and she had called another company.

The other company turned up, identified the problem but they didn’t have the part required ( It was 4 am, so I give them a pass on that one,) . They  returned at 8:30 am with the correct part to fix the issue and the tech took it upon himself to go through her furnace and air conditioner. He noted that there were old watermarks both on the side and at the base of the furnace, which I can verify. As someone that has a career in the furnace and air conditioning industry, the source of the water was very evident to me.It was clear that at some point, probably in the summertime, the evaporator coil had frozen and then melted.

One indication about this was the plugged air filter leaning up against the furnace.

The other technician told this very nice lady that her furnace was over ten years old and a crack COULD happen in the heat exchanger (even though he couldn’t find any crack) and that would send carbon monoxide into her home potentially killing her, her partner and her dogs!! If that ominous threat was not enough,  he also told her that her air conditioner unit had a leak and would also need to be replaced.

Now, it is possible that she may have a leak in the air conditioner, but there’s simply no way to determine that when it’s -26C outside!  Saying that she has a leak when there is a dirty filter right there is, “bullcrap!”

The other thing that I haven’t mentioned yet, is the 3 carbon monoxide detectors I saw in her home. I will not downplay carbon monoxide poisoning,  because it is the biggest threat to life that we face in the HVAC industry, however, there was no sign of that here. When questioned, she confirmed that the carbon monoxide detectors had never gone off. In addition, one of the detectors displays the level of CO present and when I checked it showed zero.

Let me be VERY clear here, this person was simply using fear tactics to sell a new furnace and air conditioner to this lady.

If you get a flat tire on your Chevy do you buy a new Mercedes??

“But he said I’m in imminent danger!” Said the lady

The moral of the story about fraud in Saskatoon’s HVAC Industry, is to be careful, ask questions and deal with the right people. Start by looking for businesses on TrustedSaskatoon .com.
