Trusted Saskatoon Contractors K & S Contracting Share About Foundation Repair Work vs Selling Your Home

K & S Contracting specializes in foundation repair for homeowners across Saskatchewan. In addition, they also offer general contracting services to Saskatoon and the surrounding area. In their latest Trusted Saskatoon tip, K & S Contracting, Trusted Saskatoon General Contractors, and foundation specialists, discuss if you should see your home vs foundation repair work.

SELL YOUR HOME VS FOUNDATION REPAIR

Trying to make the decision if you should sell your home versus foundation repair can be quite a decision. If you decide to sell your home with a faulty foundation you have four options:

Option 1: Do nothing and list as-is for a lesser amount.

Option 2: Complete the repair before putting it on the market.

Option 3: Offer credit to buyers to be used towards repairs after closing.

Option 4: Negotiate repair terms once an interested buyer has had an inspection.

However, if you should decide you want to keep your home and do the foundation repair. Then you need to review what is causing the problem. Below is a short list of typical foundation repairs:

SINKING

Excess water around a home’s foundation from rain or flooding can saturate the soil, causing it to sink. That effect will vary at different places around the foundation, causing not only sinking but uneven sinking, including breaking up the foundation.

SETTLING

Drought can have just as big an impact on the foundation. The soil will dry up and shrink. This causes the foundation to settle into a reduced level of the soil. And of course, that settlement will be uneven across the foundation, causing cracks and breaks.

TREE AND SHRUB ROOTS

When planted close to the home’s foundation, roots can cause significant damage. In dry conditions, they pull out moisture, causing the soil to settle. In wet conditions, the cracks created can lead to excess moisture and even flooding in basements or crawl spaces.

FROST HEAVE

In typical Saskatoon freezing conditions, the top layer of soil freezes quickly, followed by the lower levels. Unfortunately, that top frozen layer doesn’t allow the lower levels to expand as they freeze. This, in turn, pushes the top layer upward and puts pressure on the home’s foundation. Cracks and bulges are the inevitable consequences.

POOR WORKMANSHIP

A home’s foundation could also suffer from poor workmanship in the original construction. For example, the concrete mix could have too much water, leaving weak cement. It could also be improperly levelled, leading to big problems over time.

At the end of the day, deciding to sell your home vs foundation repair work depends on what you want to live with. When trying to make that decision, we recommend you call Steve immediately and ask him to provide you with your options and costs

If you are thinking of doing renos in your yard, such as building a garage, be sure you contact Click Before You Dig.

PROFESSIONAL GAS LINE INSTALLATION

Gas is something we use in our homes, often without thinking about it. It’s used for cooking and heating. However, gas is flammable and can be dangerous if not handled properly. This is why we recommend a professional gas line installation.

They Know the Standard Procedures

Professional gas fitters received the necessary training to install gas systems properly. Along with the installation, they also know the standard procedures to take to ensure that no problem will arise. They know the right places to check to ensure that the system is working fine so that you will not have to worry about gas leaks later on.

Moreover, they have the skills and equipment needed to solve other problems, such as potential corrosion, dent, or a breach in your gas lines.

They Will Give a Proper Assessment of Your System

Through their skills, experience, and equipment, they can accurately tell the condition of your gas system. As such, they can suggest the best steps to take in case it needs repair or replacement.

Remember that this is a sensitive and flammable system, so it’s best to have experienced professionals check your system so that you can avoid any accident or disaster. Don’t try to do it all on your own—after all, your life depends on it!

Professional Gas Line Installers Understand Building Plans

Home and building plans may seem simple; however, reading an architectural drawing to add or tap into a gas line requires precise knowledge and careful planning. Gas fitters are trained to read plans allowing them to perform gas line replacements, and gas conversions.

They Help You Learn More About Your Gas System

Although there are resources available online for you to do some self-learning, learning it directly from experts is still the best and easiest way to do it. Through regular maintenance and occasional repairs, you will eventually learn how the system works, what problems commonly arise, and how to address them.

These professionals are often glad to answer your questions and share with you helpful advice on maintaining your system.

They’ll Be There When You Need Them

Even though you are doing your best to maintain your gas system and have it regularly checked, accidents can still happen due to unforeseen causes. Fortunately, Gibbon’s gas fitters who are only a call away for emergency service. There’s nothing more reassuring than knowing that you’ll have someone to help you in urgent situations.

So when you are ready to install a gas line, please connect with Gibbon’s Heating & Air Conditioning to do a professional gas line installation.

Trusted Saskatoon Furnace & Duct Cleaners at Bridge City Share the Benefits of a Humidifier

Trusted Saskatoon Furnace & Duct Cleaners Bridge City Duct Cleaning provides both residential duct cleaning and commercial duct cleaning and furnace maintenance services. Their team is professionally trained, qualified, bonded, and factory furnace and duct cleaning technicians. In their latest article, they discuss the benefits of a humidifier.

THE BENEFITS OF A HUMIDIFIER

The winter air is dry in Saskatchewan and can do quite a number on your respiratory system and skin, cause static shocks, and the floorboards in your home to creak. During the winter, we notice things like cracked skin, stuffy noses, sinus problems, and colds. These issues are because of the dry air outside but also the dry air inside your home.

As the temperature drops, so does the level of moisture in the air. Low humidity is a common complaint from the late fall to early spring, especially in homes with central heating, which makes the air even drier.

Humidifiers can help to alleviate the ailments caused by low humidity. Here are the benefits of having a furnace humidifier:

Your Sinuses Won’t Act Up

When the air is too dry, it irritates the membranes in your nose and can leave you prone to sinus congestion and inflammation. Moist, humid air helps to relieve sinus pain by keeping the air in your home humid.  Running your humidifier in your home will help keep congestion under control and reduce the opportunity of getting an infection.

You Won’t Get Static Shocks

Dry air acts as an insulator, making it easy for a static charge to sneak up and zap you. If you feel like you’re getting shocked by everything you touch, it’s because the air is too dry in your home.

Your Floorboards Won’t Creak

Wood naturally reacts to changes in humidity. It’s normal for hardwood flooring to lose moisture and shrink slightly when the humidity drops. Creaky floorboards are one of the early warning signs your home could use a humidifier. Maintaining consistent humidity levels will help keep the floorboards beautiful (and silent) for years to come.

You Won’t Have Really Dry Skin

Chapped lips, cracked knuckles, and itchy, flaking skin are prevalent winter problems. The drier the air, the faster water in the skin evaporates, leaving you feeling sore and dry.

Health Canada recommends that you keep your home’s humidity between 30% to 50%. This ideal level of moisture will help your home feel warmer in winter, without you having to turn up the furnace temperature.

Now that you know about the benefits of a humidifier, but you aren’t sure if your humidifier is working on your furnace, give Bridge City Duct Cleaning a call to get a quote online.

WHAT IS A CYBERSECURITY AUDIT?

If you were hit by a cyber attack tomorrow, is your business ready? Ensuring the appropriate cybersecurity measures are in place is vital in protecting your business. A cybersecurity audit is a helpful tool in assessing the cyber security strength of your business and ensuring important information remains secure.

What Is A Cybersecurity Audit?

A cybersecurity audit is a comprehensive review of your business’s IT infrastructure. Cybersecurity audits are helpful as they detect vulnerabilities, recognize threats, and reveal high-risk practices in relation to IT security. Cybersecurity audits are all about data security and protecting information to ensure cybercriminals are unsuccessful in their hacking attempts.

What Does It Cover?

A cybersecurity audit involves a full audit of your business’s cybersecurity measures in order to assess risk, detect vulnerabilities, and recognize threats across all areas. These areas include but are not limited to:
  • Data Security – Involves a review of network access control, encryption use, data security at rest, and transmissions.
  • Network Security – Involves a review of network and security controls, antivirus, and security monitoring capabilities.
  • System Security – Involves a review of hardening processes, patching processes, privileged account management, and role-based access.
  • Physical Security – Involves a review of disk encryption, role-based access controls, biometric data, and multifactor authentication.
If it has been a while since you revisited your business’s cybersecurity measures, they are likely out of date and may no longer be effective. A cybersecurity audit will help ensure your business is prepared in the event of a cyber attack.

If you have any questions regarding cyber security and how we can help secure your data, contact the IT experts at Burnt Orange IT Solutions. We can help your business mitigate risk, and be prepared for any IT-related emergency.

"I made an appointment with Cam because I was interested in selling some gold. My mom had a lot of jewellery and I really didn't know what was real and what was fake. I was a little apprehensive about going in because you just never know if they will tell you the truth and give you the money you really should be getting. Cam put all my fears to rest. It was such a great experience that I have already told friends and family to go through their jewellery and take it in.

I would have NO issues with going back again. In fact, as soon as I got home I was on the hunt for more jewellery kicking around that we don't want. He even taught me a few lessons on what to look for if you are unsure if an item is real or not. I had a lot of fun!"
