End of the Roll a SASKATOON FLOORING Expert share a Trusted Tip on Luxury Vinyl Tile (LTR)

posted by Trusted Saskatoon    |   April 22, 2013 14:08

The moment you enter the doors at End Of The Roll, you know you have found the perfect place to help with all your flooring needs. As small as a hallway to as large as a commercial space – their flooring experts will guide you through the selection process, making sure you end up standing on solid ground. It has always been the goal at End Of The Roll to provide customers with the highest quality flooring and the best purchasing experience. They are your SASKATOON FLOORING  Expert on the SASKATOON DIRECTORY of experts!

Here they share a tip on everything you need to know about Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT):

There is a segment of the floor covering market that hasn’t received the full attention it deserves. Commercial designers/specifiers are huge fans of this, but what they know hasn’t filtered down to be shared with flooring consumers at large.

The features and benefits of Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) are outlined below, and these points separate LVT from the mix of other vinyl goods. Luxury Vinyl Tile couldn’t be more different, not only in how it’s manufactured, but in the total aesthetic and applications.

Can you believe that it is now possible to have the look, graining, and character of real hardwood in vinyl tile? Today’s technology in replication processes is the first step in creating vinyl “wood” planks and textured “stone” tiles that rival the real thing. Some of today’s big city design firms have decorated their office floors with elegant luxury vinyl “wood” planking or vinyl “slate.” These top designers can have any flooring material they want, yet many of them choose LVT. Here’s why:

LVT FEATURES & BENEFITS:

Incredibly realistic photo replication of natural materials (photogravure process): The look and feel of nature’s best materials at a lower cost are a reality of LVT manufacturing.

Brands that offer 100% vinyl material: Vinyl flooring satisfies Green building standards and earns LEED points in commercial applications.

Inherent safety features: Meets requirements of commercial flammability codes, slip resistant requirement, and a menu of other safety codes.

Ease of maintenance: Simple damp mopping is the recommended cleaning procedure for LVT floors.

Excellent selection of sizes and shapes: The size options vary by manufacturer, but many styles are available in 12 x 12”, 18 x 18”, 12 x 24” sizes, and planks in standard (3 x 36” 4.5 x 36) and extra-large widths (7 or 9’ widths).

Naturally water resistant: LVT floors are inherently water resistant (and fairly impervious to wet spills from above). It’s important to install over flat, dry, approved substrates so that no water seepage occurs beneath the floor.

Scratch, stain, dent and scuff resistant: Specialized wear layers (most common are 20mm). Then the floors are coated with urethane to enhance durability.

Cost effective: Economics factor favourably into the specification of LVT for both commercial and residential applications, giving the look and feel of rich, natural materials at a lower cost.

Exceptional durability: Because LVT is constructed to withstand commercial wear and tear, it’s probably “over-qualified” for residential use and can handle high-traffic areas with ease. Warranties vary by manufacturer, but it’s not unusual to see 20-25 year warranties on brand name LVT.

More resilient than other hard surface floors: Because there are multi-layers of vinyl in LVT as well as a resilient backing as the foundation, LVT tiles and planks have more resilience underfoot. It’s easier to stand on for long periods of time AND as an added benefit, it tends to be warmer underfoot than ceramic.

Amazing aesthetics: There has been a stunning transformation in the design aesthetics of LVT in the last five years. If you are linking it to “industrial” looking floors, this is where you need to throw away your misconceptions and do some research. This may be the one biggest factor that has caused interior designers to stand up and take note of the new brand of LVT. The realism of the total look, including distressed wood finishes, stone and slate tactile surface textures, and even woven textiles embedded in the wear layers, are grabbing attention.

There is a reason that Luxury Vinyl Tile is gaining huge momentum in the consumer market, and the reasons are pretty well described above. It’s time for you to be pleasantly amazed. As a retailer, we have made room on our showroom floors for these award-winning looks. Ask one of the Flooring Experts at End Of The Roll about LVT today!

As small as a hallway to as large as a commercial space – their flooring experts will guide you through the selection process, making sure you end up standing on solid ground. It has always been the goal at End Of The Roll to provide customers with the highest quality flooring and the best purchasing experience. They are your SASKATOON FLOORING  Expert on the SASKATOON DIRECTORY of experts

Here the Experts share a tip on measuring your floor:

Measure Your Floor In Just Two Easy Steps!

1. Using the printer-friendly grid page, make a simple sketch of your room. Be sure to show any alcoves, fireplaces, doorways, stairs, etc.

2. Then, use the square foot calculator to calculate the amount of flooring you need.

Measuring Tips From The Pros

  • Measure the width and length of the room in at least two places, just in case the room is not square. Use the largest of the two measurements.
  • Allow an extra 2 inches or 5 cm on all sides for rough cut edges, etc.
  • Because carpet has a pile direction much like the grain of wood, the pile must lay in the same direction. Don't forget to take into consideration when you need two or more pieces of carpet.
  • If you have patterned carpet or vinyl, you will need extra material to enable you to get a good match in the pattern. Ask your salesperson about "pattern repeat".
  • Now that you know how much flooring you need, just take your diagram to your nearest End Of The Roll store and our salespeople will be happy to help you choose your new flooring.

NOTE: This is a guideline only. Final pricing and selection of an installation mechanic are the sole discretion of the purchaser. End Of The Roll accepts no responsibiity for any errors or ommissions on this page, actions or workmanship of any mechanics.

END OF THE ROLL a SASKATOON FLOORING Expert share a Trusted Tip on caring for your Floors

posted by Trusted Saskatoon    |   June 8, 2012 08:45

The moment you enter the doors at End Of The Roll, you know you have found the perfect place to help with all your flooring needs. As small as a hallway to as large as a commercial space – their flooring experts will guide you through the selection process, making sure you end up standing on solid ground. It has always been the goal at End Of The Roll to provide customers with the highest quality flooring and the best purchasing experience. They are your SASKATOON FLOORING  Expert on the SASKATOON DIRECTORY of experts!

Carpet Care

Easy, proactive steps will keep your carpet looking good over time.

  • Don't track dirt inside Placing walk-off mats outside all entrances will help absorb soil and moisture and trap excessive dirt, sand, grit, oil, asphalt, or driveway sealer that might otherwise be tracked into the home.
  • Clean mats on a regular basis (or sooner, when they need it) so they don't become sources of soil themselves.
  • Use a quality pad A good carpet pad not only gives better resilience and comfort underfoot, it can extend the life of your carpet, especially on stairs. Because some carpets carry warranties with specific density and thickness requirements, be sure and review your warranty before purchasing your pad. Explore varieties of carpet pad.
  • Occasionally move heavy furniture- Moving your furniture on occasion won't just renew the feel of your room, it will also help avoid excessive pile crushing. Also consider using carpet protectors under the legs of tables, chairs, and other furniture to help distribute the weight. Damage can occur if you use chairs or appliances with rollers or casters without a chair pad designed specifically for carpet. Protect carpet when moving furniture When moving heavy wheeled furniture (pianos, buffets, etc.), prevent damage by placing a protective barrier of heavy cardboard or plywood between the wheels and the carpet.
  • Clean your area rugs -If you use area rugs on your carpet, be sure to clean them regularly, and make sure you clean and restore the pile of the carpet underneath as well. Also, be sure to check area rugs for colorfastness before placing them on carpet because the colour in some rugs may bleed through. After cleaning your carpet, allow it to dry completely before replacing rugs.
  • Reduce periods of direct sunlight- Protect your carpet from prolonged periods of direct sunlight with blinds, shades, or awnings.
  • Vacuum frequently for long-term beauty- The most important step in caring for your carpet is vacuuming it thoroughly and frequently, particularly in high-traffic areas. Walking on soiled carpet allows the soil particles to work their way below the surface of the pile where they are far more difficult to remove and can damage the carpet fibers. Frequent vacuuming removes these particles from the surface before problems occur. For rooms with light traffic, vacuum the carpet traffic lanes twice weekly and the entire area once weekly. In areas with heavy traffic, vacuum the carpet traffic lanes daily and the entire area twice weekly. Up to three passes of the machine will suffice for light soiling, but five to seven passes are necessary for heavily soiled areas. Change the vacuuming direction occasionally to help stand the pile upright and reduce matting.

Hardwood & Laminate Flooring Care

Learn how to keep it looking great while standing up to the toughest household conditions.

Maintenance guidelines

•Use a damp cloth to blot up spills as soon as they happen. Never allow liquids to stand on your floor.

•For tough spots, such as oil, paint, markers, lipstick, ink, or tar, use acetone/nail polish remover on a clean white cloth, then wipe the area with a damp cloth to remove any remaining residue.

•Sweep, dust, or vacuum the floor regularly with the hard floor attachment (not the beater bar) to prevent accumulation of dirt and grit that can scratch or dull the floor finish.

•Periodically clean the floor with cleaning products made specifically for hardwood or laminate floor care.

•Protect your flooring to keep it looking like new

•Entry mats will help collect the dirt, sand, grit, and other substances such as oil, asphalt, or driveway sealer that might otherwise be tracked onto your floor.

•To prevent slippage of area rugs, use an approved vinyl rug underlayment.

•Use floor protectors and wide-load bearing leg bases/rollers to minimize the chance of indentations and scratches from heavy objects. As a rule, the heavier the object, the wider the floor protector.

•Avoid excessive exposure to water during periods of inclement weather.

•Keep your pets nails trimmed to prevent them from scratching your floor.

•Never try to slide heavy objects across the floor.

•A protective mat should be used for furniture or chairs with castors. While cleaning is easy, there are a few things to avoid:

•Don't use oil based, wax, polish, or strong ammoniated or abrasive cleaners.

•Don't use steel wool or scouring powder.

•Don't wash or wet-mop the floor with soap, water, oil-soap detergent, or any other liquid cleaning material. This could cause swelling, warping, delamination, and joint-line separation, and void the warranty.

•Don't use any type of buffing machine.Find End Of The Roll online at www.endoftheroll.com or visit their large show room at 74 33rd Street East Saskatoon, or check out their listing in the SASKATOON FLOORING Category on www.trustedsaskatoon.com   . END OF THE ROLL a SASKATOON FLOORING Expert share a Trusted Tip on Flooring and your Health,on the SASKATOON DIRECTORY

Flooring & Health Concerns

If your family has health concerns such as a predisposition to allergies or asthma, you may want to factor this in to your decision about new flooring.

In order to minimize the amount of dust on your floor, consider which kind of floors will be the easiest for you to keep clean. This could include choosing the right colour and flooring type. For instance, dark coloured flooring shows the dust better than light or speckled styles. If you can see the dust then it will be easier to stay on top of cleaning it daily.

There are mixed reviews about carpet, but this is mainly due to regular cleaning. Yes, dust gets onto carpet the same as other types of floors, however sometimes it is harder to see, and we may tend to vacuum less than we sweep or mop. Old carpets which have not been deep-cleaned for a long time may contain mites or mold and sometimes it is best to entirely replace these areas of your home with new flooring if necessary.

Come in to End Of The Roll and talk to us about your considerations. We are here to help and, with top suppliers, brand names and "prices that will floor you," together we can minimize the floor related health concerns in your home.

We also carry cleaning products, so be sure to check out our display in-store!

END OF THE ROLL a SASKATOON FLOORING EXPERT share a Trusted Tip on removing stains from flooring!

posted by Trusted Saskatoon    |   February 4, 2012 15:09

The moment you enter the doors at End Of The Roll, you know you have found the perfect place to help with all your flooring needs. As small as a hallway to as large as a commercial space – their flooring experts will guide you through the selection process, making sure you end up standing on solid ground. It has always been the goal at End Of The Roll to provide customers with the highest quality flooring and the best purchasing experience. They are your SASKATOON FLOORING Expert on the SASKATOON DIRECTORY of experts!

Here they share their first TRUSTED TIP on :

Spot and Stain Removal

Stains and soil The majority of stain complaints are actually soil related. For example, many sugar-based spills, such as soft drinks and coffee, leave a sugar residue after removal. This sticky residue readily attracts soil from ordinary shoe traffic, and the resulting discoloured area appears to be a stain.

The same thing happens when spills are cleaned with a detergent solution and the area is not sufficiently rinsed with plain water, leaving a sticky detergent residue. It is important to rinse thoroughly with water and blot dry after removing any spill.

Carpet

No carpet is stain proof, but since many are stain resistant, you have time to act. Remove as much of food spills as possible by scraping the carpet gently with a spoon or a dull knife. Absorb wet spills quickly by blotting repeatedly with white paper or white cloth towels. Always blot; never rub or scrub abrasively, as a fuzzy area may result. When blotting, work from the outer edge in toward the centre of the spot to avoid spreading the spill. Remove the stain using one of the cleaning items from the checklist below. Rinse the cleaned carpet area with water to remove detergent residue that may become sticky and cause rapid re-soiling. Absorb any remaining moisture by placing several layers of white towels over the spot and weighing them down with a heavy object. This step is necessary even when the carpet doesn't seem particularly damp.

Be prepared for any spill with the following checklist:

•White cloths or white paper towels

•Detergent solution Mix mild liquid detergent with water (no more than 1/4 teaspoon of detergent to 32 ounces of water). -A clear, non-bleach liquid dishwashing detergent such as Dawn, Joy, or clear Ivory is recommended. Do not use detergents that are cloudy or creamy because they may leave a sticky residue. •Vinegar solution

•Mix 1 part white vinegar to 1 part water.

•Ammonia solution

•Mix one tablespoon of ammonia to one cup of water. (Do not use on wool or wool-blend carpets.)

•Non-oily nail polish remover

•Chewing gum remover (freeze or solid type)

•Spot Remover

•Use spot removers designed specifically for grease, oil, or tar.

•Specialty Spot Removers Several specialty spotting products are available from cleaning industry suppliers to remove difficult stains.

Laminate Flooring

Care For spots such as candle wax or chewing gum, harden the spot with ice and then gently scrape with a plastic scraper, such as a credit card. Be careful not to scratch the flooring surface. Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Do not wash or wet mop the floor with soap, water, oil-soap detergent, or any other liquid cleaning material. This could cause swelling, warping, delamination, and joint-line separation, and void the warranty.

•Do not use steel wool, abrasive cleaners, or strong ammoniated or chlorinated type cleaners.

•Do not use any type of buffing or polishing machine.
