Essential Summer Vehicle Maintenance Tips

As the summer season approaches, it's crucial to ensure that your vehicle is in optimal condition to handle the warm weather and long road trips. Regular maintenance can help prevent breakdowns, improve fuel efficiency, and increase overall safety. In this blog post, we'll outline some essential summer vehicle maintenance tips to keep your car running smoothly throughout the season.

Check the Cooling System:

The cooling system plays a vital role in preventing your engine from overheating during the hot summer months. Inspect the coolant level and ensure it's at the recommended level. Consider flushing and refilling the coolant if it hasn't been done recently. Additionally, inspect the radiator and hoses for any leaks or damage.

Test the Air Conditioning System:

Driving in scorching heat without a functional air conditioning system can be uncomfortable and potentially dangerous. Before the summer heat hits, have your air conditioning system inspected by a professional. They can check for refrigerant leaks, clean the system, and ensure it's functioning correctly.

Inspect the Tires:

Proper tire maintenance is crucial for safety and fuel efficiency. Check the tire pressure regularly, including the spare tire. Underinflated tires can overheat and wear out more quickly, while overinflated tires can lead to poor traction. Additionally, inspect the tread depth and look for signs of uneven wear or damage. Consider rotating the tires if necessary.

Replace Worn Wiper Blades:

Summer showers can be sudden and intense, so having functioning wiper blades is essential for visibility. Inspect your wiper blades for any signs of wear, such as cracks or streaks. If they are worn out, replace them with new ones to ensure clear visibility during summer rainstorms.

Check and Top Up Fluid Levels:

Fluids play a critical role in the proper functioning of your vehicle. Check the oil level and change it if needed, following the manufacturer's recommendations. Additionally, inspect the transmission fluid, brake fluid, and power steering fluid levels. Topping up or replacing fluids as necessary will keep your vehicle running smoothly.

Test the Battery:

Hot weather can put a strain on your vehicle's battery. Check the battery terminals for corrosion, and clean them if necessary. Test the battery's charge using a voltmeter or have a professional check it for you. If your battery is more than a few years old or shows signs of weakness, consider replacing it to avoid unexpected breakdowns.

Clean and Protect the Exterior:

Summer often means increased exposure to sunlight, dust, and road debris. Regularly wash your vehicle to remove dirt and grime, paying attention to the undercarriage. Apply a protective wax or sealant to the paintwork to prevent sun damage and maintain its shine.

Summer vehicle maintenance is essential for ensuring a smooth and enjoyable driving experience during the warmer months. By following these tips, you can minimize the risk of breakdowns, improve fuel efficiency, and enhance overall safety. Remember to consult your vehicle's owner manual for specific maintenance recommendations, and consider seeking professional assistance for complex tasks. With proper care, your car will be ready to hit the road and make the most of the summer season.

Epic also offers financing. If you need vehicle parts or car service but don't have the immediate funds to pay for it, take advantage of a monthly payment plan using the value of your vehicle through their financing partner.

Sunview Windows and Doors Tip on Patio Door Ideas and Options

We strive to be your local experts when it comes to windows and doors. We also want to share our passion for our products with you too, so now we have a Sunview blog to do just that!

In this article, you will learn about new options and patio door ideas for attractive, functional doors.

Patio Doors

Your outdoor living space is an extension of your home, and that is why you’ll want to consider a variety of options and patio door ideas before finalizing your project.

One of the most common patio door options is the French patio door. This style incorporates glass window panes in the door, allowing an unobstructed view from the home’s interior to the outside space and vice versa. It can create a natural transition from the inside to the patio. French patio doors are usually available in wood, fibreglass and PVC, and they can be configured as either swinging or sliding doors.

Sliding Patio Doors

Whereas French patio doors are a more traditional approach, contemporary sliding doors have a more modern look. These doors offer greater simplicity in that they create no obstacles at all to furniture placement, inside or out. Patios are generally gathering places for family and friends, and when lots of people are involved, a traditionally open and close door can be a hindrance to entering and exiting. Just ask anyone who’s tried to carry a tray of appetizers through a traditional door while a gaggle of toddlers is racing in or out. For this reason, and because they can add a modern, elegant design element to connect your outdoor and indoor space, sliding patio doors are a popular option.

In the past, sliding patio doors were heavier and had a reputation for getting stuck in their tracks or misaligned. Modern sliding patio doors generally offer a much slimmer, more contemporary look, and the problems of sticking and misalignment have been lessened. Because of the lighter materials, these new designs generally offer a larger, less obstructed viewing area as well.

Folding Patio Door

Designed with three or more panels, these doors fold upon opening and slide on a track, similar to sliding doors. Folding patio doors can create a unique visual aesthetic and are often a good fit for more modern patio designs.

Whatever option you prefer the look of, you need to ensure that it will work for your home and your family… that's where we come in! The Sunview Windows and Doors team are skilled professionals. Our goal is to provide the best possible experience from beginning to end!

Trusted Saskatoon Realtor Clark Dziadyk Shares Summer Lawn Care And Curb Appeal Tips

Whether you’re buying a house for the first time, the second, or the seventh time, it’s still one of the biggest decisions you ever have to make. In order to ensure sheer success, you need Trusted Saskatoon Realtor Clark Dziadyk! Clark will ease your mind by taking the pressure off of you to find your dream home! Be assured Saskatoon Real Estate Agent Clark Dziadyk Clark puts 100% effort into everything he does. Don’t you hate it when the grass is greener at your next door neighbour’s place? This summer you could have the lawn that turns everyone’s eyes green with envy and admiration, but you’ve got to get on it right now! Follow these tips to grow the best lawn.

Summer Lawn Care Increases Your Homes Curb Appeal

1. Inspect The Lawn Regularly

Inspect your lawn and note any spots that need special attention. If you notice brown patches, you

need to act quickly to identify the disease so you can treat it. If the entire lawn is somewhat

flattened from winter weather, call in an aeration service. Those little holes in the lawn will last just

long enough to loosen up the soil and allow better water and nutrient absorption.

2. Rake Your Lawn

Rake any dead spots and reseed using a variety of grass seeds to match the rest of your lawn. For

larger areas that may have been damaged by snow plows, for example, you can remove entire

sections and replace with sod. If you notice areas where there has been a lot of soil erosion, mulch

beds are a good way to shore up future runoffs.

3. Fertilize Your Lawn

Apply a slow-release fertilizer to feed the grass over weeks. Pick a day that’s not windy and check to make sure there’s no rain in the immediate forecast to keep the fertilizer where you want it. Dispose of any leftover fertilizer appropriately, as you would household chemicals like paint.

4. Water Your Lawn

Make sure to water deeply, not daily. Deep watering will encourage a healthy root system. Whether you drag the hose out in the morning or have an automatic sprinkler system, set a watering schedule. Your lawn needs an inch to an inch and a half of water a week.

5. Lawnmower Maintenance

Keep mower blades sharp and balanced for clean cuts and change the pattern every time you mow so grass blades will stand up straight. Remember to let your grass clippings fall where they may, and remain there. “Grasscycling” returns nutrients to the soil, allowing them to fertilize the lawn. Proper lawn care prevents the most common lawn problems from getting out of control. Keeping the grass at the right length will help keep it healthy and keep weeds at bay.

6. Rake & Weed Your Lawn

When autumn arrives, and the leaves begin to fall, don’t wait for large amounts to pile up. Remove

leaves often, so they don’t get a chance to become wet and sticky. Blankets of wet leaves can

create a fungal problem that will plague your lawn long after the last snow falls.

Set yourself up for another lovely lawn the following spring and summer by doing some weed control now, and an application of fertilizer for nutrients to feed your grass throughout the cold

season.

Keep in mind that if you plan to sell your home, having a nice lawn is crucial. But the homes that show the best have more than just end-to-end grass. The right shade trees will also protect your lawn and keep your house cooler this summer.

Notice summer lawn care doesn’t just cover June through September. By preparing your lawn well in advance of the summer heat, you’ll have a yard that will withstand the stress of summer and thrive through the fall.

TIPS TO MINIMIZE STRAIN ON YOUR HVAC SYSTEM THIS SUMMER

Saskatchewan summer is around the corner, and having a well-functioning HVAC system to keep your home cool is essential. Here are some tips to minimize strain and help keep your system running efficiently all summer long.

Leave The AC On Even When You Are Not Home

It is often thought that turning off your AC when you leave your home can save you money. However, this is not the case. Turning off your AC will only cause the unit to have to work harder to achieve the set temperature once it is turned on again. In addition, turning off your AC will increase humidity, creating condensation issues.

Programmable thermostats regulate the temperature of your home while you are away. All you have to do is set them so that the temperature is higher during the hours you will be away, and lower for the hours you will be home. Programmable thermostats help minimize strain on your HVAC system and save you money.

Ensure Windows And Doors Remain Shut

When windows and doors are left open, hot air is able to enter the home. Allowing this hot air in will create more work for your HVAC unit that is already working overtime. Not to mention, open windows and doors allow for pollutants and allergens to enter the home easily which does not foster a healthy environment.

Change Filters Regularly To Ensure Cleanliness

When air filters are dirty, less air is able to flow through. As a result, your system must work harder to cool the home. When airflow is restricted by a dirty filter, less air passes through the evaporator coil. This puts your system at risk for the coil to freeze as there is less heat for the coil to absorb.

Do Not Shut Too Many Registers

Since the duct system in your home is designed to circulate air at a certain pressure, it is very important the registers remain open. Shutting registers means the system has to work harder, it does not reduce the amount of air the system is creating. Shutting registers will overwork your HVAC system, which will not prolong its longevity.

Ensure Annual Maintenance Is Complete

Remember that you are not always the expert when it comes to your HVAC system, and you don’t need to be! Calling a professional for your regular maintenance will ensure all system components are clean, and that the system is in good working order for the summer months.

These are a few tips to minimize strain on your HVAC system to help keep your home cool. Following these tips will ensure you and your family stay comfortable this summer. 5 Common Air Conditioner Problems

With warmer temperatures comes the need to cool off your home by turning on your air conditioner. We all forget about them over the winter months and by not using them for such a long period of time, your air conditioner may be showing problems if you have not had it checked for regular maintenance before firing it up again. JOB Heating & Air Conditioning discusses some common air conditioner problems you may be having with your AC unit.

Air Conditioner Problem: Water Leak

Maintenance is long overdue if you see water leaking from your air conditioner’s unit. Water leaks tend to be from a clogged drain, broken pump, dry air filter, or improper installation.

The first thing to do after diagnosing a water leak is to turn off your air conditioner and disconnect the power. After that, contact your Saskatoon air conditioning experts at JOB Heating & Air Conditioning.

Refrigerant Leak

If the refrigerant is leaking, it reduces the efficiency of your air conditioner and can be harmful to the environment. In case of a minor leak, you can top up the refrigerant and apply a minor fix. If there is an issue with the pipes, the whole component may need to be changed. Call JOB Heating & Air Conditioning when this happens.

Air Conditioner Problem: Dirty Air Filter

In order to keep the airflow in your air conditioner clean and free from dust and pollutants, a clean air filter is important. When an air filter is dirty, it decreases the efficiency of your AC unit as well as reducing the ability to cool the air of your home effectively. On average, an air filter should be cleaned or changed every 3 to 4 months.

Frozen Evaporator Coil

If your air conditioner stops working it may be due to a frozen evaporator coil due to the AC unit not receiving enough air needed to operate. This air conditioner problem disrupts smooth AC. In order to diagnose this problem, let the evaporator coil thaw by not using the unit for 24 hours. Make sure you disconnect the power first. Then contact the Trusted Saskatoon AC team at JOB Heating & Air Conditioning to troubleshoot and ensure the AC evaporator coil does not freeze up again.

Air Conditioner Problems: Failure of Electric Control

By turning the AC unit on and off multiple times, you may wear out the compressor. If there is a disruption in the connection due to corrosion of wires, this can prevent the compressor and motor from starting. Check the electrical connection to the AC unit, and if you cannot determine the issue, contact JOB Heating & Air Conditioning. where one of their cooling professionals will be happy to assist.

JOB fix, maintain, service, sell and install all brands of residential and commercial air conditioning units to Saskatoon and the surrounding area. If your air conditioner is not cooling, or if it is freezing up, simply contact JOB and they will solve your problems.
