How Often Your Air Ducts Need To Be Cleaned By Trusted Saskatoon Furnace & Duct Cleaners at Bridge City

Trusted Saskatoon Furnace & Duct Cleaners Bridge City Duct Cleaning provides both residential duct cleaning and commercial duct cleaning and furnace maintenance services. Their team is professionally trained, qualified, bonded, and factory furnace and duct cleaning technicians. In their latest article, they discuss how often your air ducts need to be cleaned.

How Often Do Your Air Ducts Need to be Cleaned?

Did you know a single duct cleaning service removes about five or six pounds of dust? So this begs the question, how often do your air ducts need to be cleaned? We know that over time contaminants like dust, lint and debris can build up in your air ducts and dryer vents, which affects your home’s indoor air quality, but how often they should be cleaned depends on each homeowner, and who you ask. Some recommend it should be done yearly as part of your home maintenance list. It is agreed that the following situations are specific times when it should be done.
  • When you move into a new home
  • After building a new home
  • After completing a home remodel project
  • If you have pets in the home that shed
  • If smokers live in the household
  • If you fry a lot of food in your home

What parts are included in an air duct cleaning?

  • Supply and return air ducts
  • Grilles
  • Diffusers
  • Heat exchangers
  • Heating and cooling coils
  • Drip pans
  • Fan motor and housing
  • Unit housing
A thorough air duct cleaning should remove all visible and hidden dirt and other debris from the air ducts and the connected HVAC. Otherwise, the dirt in the air duct system will quickly build up again from the dust and debris left behind on other parts of the HVAC system.

Generally, it is recommended that you should have your air ducts cleaned every 3 to 5 years under normal household conditions.

FAQs About Hot Tubs Answered By Backyard Living Center - Part 3

How is the hot tub insulated?

Several spa manufacturers have always insisted that the only way to insulate a spa is with “full urethane foam”. In this method, all the glued plumbing within the spa is covered using a sprayed-on foam. This method was fine twenty years ago but like many materials, safer, better alternatives have been developed.  Certainly, urethane foam is acceptable as an insulator but more often than not it is primarily used as a structural backup. Where there is limited structural integrity, urethane foam is used as a substitution because it “holds together all the components of the spa” and compensates for a limited engineered structure. Alternates to full foam spas have been developed to address the issue of gaining access to the plumbing within the spa. H2O spas have developed their own unique Multi-Layer Insulation System.

What are the pros and cons of a urethane foam-filled spa?

The Pros of using urethane foam:
  • It is used primarily to insulate the hot tub against the environment, therefore, reducing operating costs.

  • Secondly, it can be used as a substitute for structural support where there is little or no frame structure. Imagine a large block of foam with everything trapped inside.

The Cons of using urethane foam:
  • Urethane spray foam used for insulating hot tubs is a two-part chemical product that when mixed, results in an expanding foam component. It is used under strict safety codes because of the unhealthy ‘off gassing’ fumes.

  • The resulting foam expands into the cavities of the hot tub solidifying as it cures sealing all ventilating apertures. We all have to breathe, and so does your hot tub. Preventing air circulation inside the cavity of the hot tub creates the perfect condition for possible future mold growth.

  • Once the hot tub has been foam-filled it is extremely difficult to service the tub particularly if you experience a water leak in the complex plumbing underneath the tub. A simple plumbing defect can take hours to trace and repair. Tracing the leak becomes more difficult than the actual repair.

  • The biggest problem occurs after the repair has been completed and you have taken out the wet foam to reach the leak area. What do you use to replace the insulation you have removed? Usually, this is done with an expensive canned substitute of the foam which inevitably does not have the same insulation properties of the originally installed foam – in other words, it is being replaced with a substitute that may possibly affect the insulation qualities of the hot tub. There is also the problem of discarding the saturated foam which must be packed separately and isolated from normal garbage.

  • Any water contamination from the internal plumbing deteriorates the foam creating a sludge that is prone to mold growth and if the foam has been used as a structural substitute, this can possibly weaken the spa.

Is it detrimental to the efficiency of the hot tub if all four sides of the spa are not foam-filled?

Our tests show that the insulation benefits of partially removing some insulation from one side of the hot tub are outweighed by replacing the insulation with electronic equipment and two electric motors, each one generating surplus heat. In fact the two motors generate so much heat that we evacuate the surplus heat and pipe it to the air intakes of the spa jets, thus supplying warm air automatically when the jet pumps are engaged.

What are the benefits of using Roxul insulation?

  • Practical to use; anyone can handle it safely. Sold in most hardware stores this amazing material is readily available.

  • Can be removed and replaced without instruction, just use a common sense approach when handling this material.

  • Roxul is fire retardant. Even when held to a naked flame it will not ignite.

  • Environmentally prudent; disposal, if required, can be the same as with any household garbage.

  • Water repellent. If a leak occurs in the tub it cannot damage the Roxul. Being water repellent,  moisture will pass right through the Roxul leaving it completely dry.

  • Deters rodents because it is an inert material made from lava rock that cannot be eaten or affected by animals.

  • Recyclable; there is no need to throw it away. Just store it in a dry environment for future use.

  • Roxul has an R-Value equal to or better than traditional insulation materials including low-density open cell urethane foam.

  • Roxul is used in many commercial and residential buildings costing millions of dollars. Does it make sense to use such an amazing material in a product costing much less? Of course, it does, that is why we led the way by using Roxul as an insulating system in all H2O Spas.

  • How much is your house worth? Hundreds of thousands of dollars? Most houses are now built using Roxul Insulation, it makes sense to use it as an insulator in your hot tub.

  • Helps reduce equipment noise. Roxul is renowned for its ability to capture noise and is used extensively as a noise barrier.

Trusted Saskatoon Funeral Home Provides Information On Burial Services

Since 1910, Saskatoon Funeral Home has responded to the needs of Saskatoon & area citizens of every faith and every walk of life. They have a proud history as Saskatoon's longest-serving, local, family-owned and operated, full-service funeral and cremation provider to trace its roots to the beginning days of our city. Saskatoon Funeral Home are a Trusted Saskatoon funeral home.

Burial Services

Traditionally, a burial service involves a visitation, followed by a funeral service in a church, funeral home, or another place of worship. The casket is typically present at both these events, and it is your decision on whether to have the casket open or not. After the funeral service, the deceased is interred (earth burial) in a cemetery. Family or religious traditions are often a factor in choosing burial. Decisions need to be made on whether the deceased will be embalmed, what kind of casket to use, what cemetery to use and what to put on the gravestone.

Cemetery Types

Monumental cemetery: A monumental cemetery is the traditional style of cemetery where headstones or other monuments made of marble or granite rise vertically above the ground. There are countless different types of designs for headstones, ranging from very simple to large and complex.

Lawn cemetery: A lawn cemetery is where each grave is marked with a small commemorative plaque that is placed horizontally at the head of the grave at ground level. Families can still be involved in the design and the information contained on the plaque.

Columbarium: Columbarium walls are generally reserved for cremated remains. While cremated remains can be kept at home by families or scattered somewhere significant to the deceased, a columbarium provides friends and family with a place to come to mourn and visit.

Burial FAQ

What is opening and closing and what is involved?
Opening and closing fees can include up to and beyond 50 separate services provided by the cemetery.  Typically, the opening and closing fee include administration and permanent record keeping (determining ownership, obtaining permission and the completion of other documentation which may be required, entering the interment particulars in the interment register, maintaining all legal files); opening and closing the grave (locating the grave and laying out the boundaries, excavating and filling the interment space); installation and removal of the lowering device; placement and removal of artificial grass dressing and coco-matting at the grave site, levelling, tamping, re-grading and in some cases sodding the gravesite and levelling and re-sodding the grave if the earth settles.

Can we dig our own grave to avoid the charge for opening and closing?
The actual opening and closing of the grave is just one component of the opening and closing fee. Due to safety issues which arise around the use of machinery on cemetery property and the protection of other gravesites, the actual opening and closing of the grave are conducted by cemetery grounds personnel only. Some rural cemeteries do allow families to dig and fill the grave on their own.

Why is having a place to visit so important?
To remember and to be remembered are natural human needs. A permanent memorial in a cemetery provides a focal point for remembrance and memorializing of the deceased. Throughout human history, the memorialization of the dead has been a key component of almost every culture. Psychologists say that remembrance practices, from the funeral or memorial service to permanent memorialization, serve an important emotional function for survivors by helping them bring closure and allowing the healing process to begin. Providing a permanent resting place for the deceased is a dignified treatment for a loved one’s mortal remains, which fulfils the natural human desire for memorialization.

What happens when a cemetery runs out of land?
When a cemetery runs out of land, it will continue to operate and serve the community. The rate of cemetery usage has slowed due to cremation. Some families choose not to inter at a cemetery or they may be interred in an existing grave above a traditional burial. The projection of cemetery land running out has changed and the cemeteries in our area have adequate room for years to come.

In a hundred years will this cemetery still be there?
We think of cemetery lands as being in perpetuity. There are cemeteries throughout the world that have been in existence for hundreds of years.

How soon after or how long after a death must an individual be buried?
There is no law that states a specific time from burial. Considerations that will affect the timeline include the need to secure all permits and authorizations, notification of family and friends, preparation of the cemetery site, and religious considerations.

Does a body have to be embalmed before it is buried?
No. Embalming is a choice which depends on a number of factors: if there is to be an open casket viewing of the body or if there is to be an extended time between death and internment. Public health laws may require embalming if the body is going to be transported by air or rail depending on the destination.

What options are available besides ground burial?
Besides ground burial, some cemeteries offer entombment in mausoleums. In addition, most cemeteries provide choices for those who have selected cremation. These often include placement of cremated remains in a niche of a columbarium or interment in an urn space.

What are burial vaults and grave liners?
These are the outside containers into which the casket is placed. Burial vaults are designed to protect the casket and may be made of a variety or combination of materials including concrete, stainless steel, galvanized steel, copper, bronze, plastic or fibreglass. A grave liner is a lightweight version of a vault which simply keeps the grave surface from sinking in.

Must I purchase a burial vault?
Most large, active cemeteries have regulations that require the use of a basic grave liner for maintenance and safety purposes. Either a grave liner or a burial vault will satisfy these requirements. Some smaller rural or churchyard cemeteries do not require the use of a container to surround the casket in the grave.

"I made an appointment with Cam because I was interested in selling some gold. My mom had a lot of jewellery and I really didn't know what was real and what was fake. I was a little apprehensive about going in because you just never know if they will tell you the truth and give you the money you really should be getting. Cam put all my fears to rest. It was such a great experience that I have already told friends and family to go through their jewellery and take it in.

I would have NO issues with going back again. In fact, as soon as I got home I was on the hunt for more jewellery kicking around that we don't want. He even taught me a few lessons on what to look for if you are unsure if an item is real or not. I had a lot of fun!"

Trusted Saskatoon Brags About Imagery Photography, A Trusted Saskatoon Photographer!

TrustedSaskatoon.com is so proud to partner with Imagery Photography and tell you why as we brag about this Trusted Saskatoon Photographer!

It seems like everyone who runs in “photographic circles” knows Imagery’s founder, Milton Taylor. Milton started Imagery Photography in 1977 out of a desire to be independently successful – and over the past 35 years has become a name that is synonymous with quality and artistry. As you can imagine, a lot has changed in the photographic industry over 35 years – the technology is very advanced as compared to the old equipment and processes. Milton comments,

“There is more to creating a portrait than a magic camera and photoshop skills… our strength is in our experience, our background in technical training, and our ability to understand the fundamentals – lighting, posing, and the mechanics of exposure.”

Considering that Milton is a Master of the Photographic Arts, we truly believe that at Imagery Photography Saskatoon, you are dealing with the experts!

Your experience with Imagery begins with the initial consultation, where Milton gets to know a bit more about a person, and really listens to what you, the client, want from your session. This is crucial to the success of the shoot because this is where Imagery works with you to discover what style of portraiture will make you the happiest, whether it be journalistic, static, traditional, or environmental.

Listening to their clients is key to their success… Imagery Photography strives to give you the portraits that you will cherish. From this point, you then book your session (with a rain date chosen just in case!), and after that, a client comes back in to sit with Milton for the initial projection. This is where you can review all of the photos in the shoot with your photographic team to choose your favourites. After that, you are emailed your choices to make your final decisions, and then you are ready to order.

We all know that there are different reasons that people do what they do… some do it for the money, some do it for recognition, and some do what they do because they are passionate about it and genuinely love their craft. When we asked Milton what he loves the most about his work, he responded,

“I love working in the environment, working with 3 or 4 generations of family, and working with young couples in love… you can see the passion people have for each other. Things in life will catch your eye if they catch your heart – these are the things you should pursue.”

Essentially, Milton sees himself as a historian – and this is where the artistry really comes into play.

“This work will be seen 50, 60, 100 years from now.”

Imagery Photography works in collaboration with many photographers in the province, hoping to elevate the standards of the industry and the profession as a whole. Milton does quite a bit of mentoring, and the attitude is always that someone once took the time to share knowledge with him, and this is his way to give back to the profession. He states,

“Having a cake and eating it by yourself is no fun. This is my cake and I’m sharing it!”

Asked about retirement, Milton always says he’s retiring on the first... the first time he doesn’t enjoy it anymore, that is! Well. here’s to many more years!!!!!
