Trusted Saskatoon Auto Body Experts at Superior Auto Body Discuss Replacing Cracked Windshields

Trusted Saskatoon Auto body Pros at Superior Auto Body in Saskatoon has been in business since 1961, and Superior Auto Body has been an SGI APPROVED Saskatoon Auto body shop since SGI started the program in 1982. There are many reasons they have so many loyal longstanding clients from all over the city, but mostly it is the small, personal touches that they offer to people who have been unfortunate enough to require their services. They offer newer model courtesy cars and vans for their clients... and they will also pick up your vehicle, take it to your SGI appointment for you, and deliver the courtesy car to you at home. In their latest Saskatoon Autobody and Collision Repair Tips article, they discuss the benefits of replacing your cracked windshield this fall, particularly before the cold temperatures hit.

BENEFITS OF REPLACING YOUR CRACKED WINDSHIELD THIS FALL

Auto glass repairs on your vehicle such as windshield replacements can provide peace of mind to drivers particularly before those cold winter months hit. Investing in quality windshield repair is crucial in ensuring the structural integrity of your vehicle, and ultimately the safety of the driver and passengers.

SAFETY

The windshield of your vehicle is essential for both driver and passenger safety, which is always a priority. When you have a cracked windshield, the integrity of your vehicle is compromised and can create unsafe driving conditions. When your windshield is damaged there is a higher likelihood of the glass breaking should you find yourself in a collision or a situation where an object was to come in contact with your vehicle.

In the event of a rollover, a windshield can account for up to 30 percent of roof support. Therefore, a damaged windshield can compromise the roof of your vehicle and there is a higher likelihood that the roof may cave in, impacting the safety of the driver and passengers.

VISUAL CLARITY

Simply put, a chipped or cracked windshield impairs the driver’s ability to view the road ahead. Replacing your windshield eliminates obstructions due to cracks and chips, particularly if they are in your line of sight, and reduces the potential for accidents to occur.

DAMAGED WINDSHIELDS AND COLD WEATHER

If there are any existing damages to your windshield, extremely cold temperatures can negatively impact these damages further. Glass expands and contracts due to weather changes, as most materials do. Cold weather will cause your windshield to contract, and as a result, it will become more concave in shape. This is a stressful change for your windshield, and can result in cracks, chips, and may worsen other issues due to shifting. Many drivers find that as soon as cold temperatures hit, they find minor windshield cracks grow. That is why it is so important to replace or repair your windshield as soon as possible when you notice a crack. If you put windshield repair off for too long, a full replacement becomes your only option.

SEAL LOSS

The main concern, particularly in inclement weather, is a windshield losing its seal. When glass loses its seal, chips and cracks allow air and water to enter your vehicle. During those cold days, it is especially important to keep heat in the vehicle. Replacing your windshield ensures the cold air stays out, and the hot air stays in.

Overall, it is essential to make sure your windshield damages are remedied before cold temperatures strike. Your windshield is an important part of your vehicle’s structural integrity.

Superior Auto Body installs windshields to meet all manufacturers' specifications for your safety. If you have a small crack in your vehicle’s glass – see them before it turns into a big problem. WHEN DO YOU GET POINTS ON YOUR DRIVER’S LICENSE?

Do you know when you get points on your driver’s license? Monty explains in the video when you do and don’t get points on your driver’s license.

NO POINTS
Your vehicle is in a parking lot and there has been damage to it while parked. This may be from someone else bumping into your vehicle or perhaps hail damage to your vehicle. In this scenario, there are no points since you were not driving.

POINTS ON YOUR DRIVER’S LICENSE

You will get points if you were involved in an accident and SGI deems that you are at fault.

HOW MUCH DO THE POINTS COST?

For example, if you pay $1,000 for your vehicle insurance and you get 6 points on your driver’s license from an accident where SGI deemed that you were at fault, that is $60 which will only last a couple of years.

If you have questions about points on your driver's license or need collision repair, contact us at Superior Auto Body and we can handle all of your repair needs. When you bring your vehicle to Superior Auto Body in Saskatoon, you receive a FREE courtesy car while your vehicle is in the shop.

DEDUCTIBLE AUTO BODY TIP FROM MONTY AT SUPERIOR

WHEN DO YOU PAY YOUR DEDUCTIBLE?

Do you know when you may have to pay your deductible? Monty explains in the video scenarios when you do and don’t have to pay your deductible.

PAY YOUR DEDUCTIBLE

SCENARIO #1

You leave your vehicle in a parking lot and you return to damage. This may include a hail storm or you have been involved in a hit and run with no note left on your vehicle. This scenario you do have to pay the deductible.

SCENARIO #2

If you have been involved in an accident where you are at fault, according to SGI. This scenario you do have to pay the deductible.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY

SCENARIO #1

You have been involved in an accident where you are not at fault and the other person involved is at fault, according to SGI. You do not have to pay your deductible in this scenario.

COMMON EXAMPLE

One situation that happens a lot is when you have been involved in an accident where you are at fault but your vehicle does not have any damage. The other party involved has damage. Do you have to pay for their deductible? No, you do not.

Here is an example: You back up your truck out of your driveway and you hit your neighbour’s vehicle. Your truck has no damage but your neighbour’s vehicle does have damage. You do not need to pay your deductible in this scenario.

Trusted Saskatoon Auto Body Experts at Superior Share Why Colour Matching is Vital To Repairs

Superior Auto Body Ltd Saskatoon has been in business since 1961, and they are an SGI ELITE Autobody shop and have been SGI accredited since 1982. There are many reasons they have so many loyal longstanding clients from all over the city, but mostly it is the small, personal touches that they offer to people who have been unfortunate enough to require their services. We offer newer model courtesy cars and vans for our clients... and to help out, we will also pick up your vehicle and take it to your SGI appointment for you and deliver the courtesy car to you at home. In our latest accident prevention tips, we share the reason correct paint matching is vital to auto body repairs.

When your vehicle is involved in an accident, you want to have it repaired as close to new condition possible. One of the most technically challenging parts of auto body and collision process is paint matching and the final finish.

We have all seen auto bodywork rolling around the streets of Saskatoon that is not up to par, and it often looks worse than the original accident. If the entire panels have been replaced, there is often a noticeable difference between the new panel and the rest of the car because of mismatched paint. It is the job of the team at Superior Auto Body to make sure your vehicle looks as good as new, and this is a challenge as paint matching is one of the most difficult skills to master.

When your car or truck was newly painted at the factory, the entire body was painted at the same time from the same batch of paint. This ensures that all the parts of the car are EXACTLY the same colour and shade of paint. Paint matching is an art, and only an experienced and accredited auto body shop can accurately match new paint to an original finish. All automotive paints have codes specific to the colour, but there are thousands of variations and shades. Additionally, colour variations from original are inevitable because of normal aging. When a car has been on the road for a few years, there is a normal fading of the color. Even if a new batch of paint is mixed to factory specifications, there may still be a noticeable difference, and this is where the skill of the body shop comes in.

HOW DO YOU KNOW THE EXACT COLOUR TO MATCH?

There is a tag, usually inside the door jamb, with code numbers and one of these codes is the paint color for your car. This number is used to correctly match the paint should a repair ever be necessary. The number of colors available is staggering, even basic colors such as black and red have dozens, if not hundreds of different shades. In addition, the older the vehicle, the more difficult it may be to match the paint. At this point insurance coverage has some influence on the repair work. If a door panel on an older car needs to be repaired after a collision, a good body shop should be able to match the paint to your satisfaction. There are blending techniques that allow new paint to lightly overspray old paint to achieve a transition that is not noticeable. In some cases, it may not be possible to match the paint due to weathering and fading, and it may be necessary to paint the entire side of the car.

Any accident is an unpleasant experience that you want to put behind you. One important step is having your car repaired properly, and the best way to do that is to use an experienced auto body and collision repair shop like Superior Autobody; a repair shop that warranties their work, will repair the hidden damage that may not be apparent for a month after the accident and stands by their work.

Our team at Superior takes pride in their workmanship… as we always say, “When we get through it’s just like new”.
