Test Your Thermostat

How do you know if your HVAC is being overworked? Try testing your thermostat. If you can see an accurate temperature reading displayed, it is working properly. Fall maintenance is the perfect time to double check all the settings you have set up on your thermostat. With cooler temperatures, you will want your home to be warmer so it is a good idea to change the settings on your thermostat based on the upcoming fall weather.

Claims of high-pressure sales tactics, as well as false, incorrect or misleading information about natural gas appliance sales have been skyrocketing. The claims include salespeople being intentionally vague about the funding source of a rebate or offer, and has resulted in customers assuming the salesperson is a government or SaskEnergy rebate. They are not.

SaskEnergy and SaskEnergy Network Members do not allow or conduct door-to-door sales activities. As a precaution, we are encouraging homeowners to do their research before signing a contract or investing in new heating and cooling equipment.

Unfortunately, there has been many cases where customers have felt pressured into quickly signing agreements without fully understanding what they are agreeing to or the cost of the equipment they are agreeing to buy or rent.

“Don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions, thoroughly review financing contracts and fine print before you sign, research the company, and shop around by gathering quotes from other local contractors.” said Carolyn Bagnell, Executive Director for MCAS, in a news release.

If a contract has already been signed, and the homeowner feels they have been misled on the service, equipment or cost, they have the ability to halt the transaction within 10 days of signing the contract. Misleading sales tactics can come from door-to-door selling or from phone calls from telemarketers trying to sell or rent you heating and cooling equipment.

Saskatchewan winters are really hard on vehicles. If you are one of the lucky ones to already have a Unit Heater for your garage then you know what I am referencing to. If not, here are some of the benefits that can be experienced, from the experts at Razor Heating & Air Conditioning themselves. 

Q: How does the cold affect vehicles? Does it have many negative effects?

The rubber compound in all-season tires hardens when temps drop below? 7C, causing them to lose grip, whereas winter tires stay soft and stick to the road in sub-zero temperatures.

Your engine runs least efficiently during the first 20 minutes or so after cold start-up, before it has warmed to operating temperature.

Windshields will be more vulnerable to damage. Never use hot water to clear a frosted windshield, as it could crack. Alcohol sprays, such as Frost Buster, Prestone Heat or ordinary rubbing alcohol are safer alternatives. These can also be added to washer fluid to increase freeze-up protection.

Some of your items will be more susceptible to harm depending on the materials they are made of. Wood and metal will expand and contract during freezing and thawing, which can cause the material to warp or weaken and sometimes split or crack. Leather and other materials may yellow or degrade more easily after being exposed to freezing temperatures.
