What is CMHC’s future economic forecast?
I had the opportunity to attend the 2013 CMHC Conference in Saskatoon last week, this meeting always gives those of us in the industry knowledge and stats on what the last year looked like & what we have to look forward to in the future and there is no surprise that Saskatoon’s economic forecast is that of Growth & New Home starts. We can look forward to another increase in housing starts in 2014.
CMHC is forecasting an employment increase from 4.2% in 2013 to 4.3% in 2014. What this means is: Higher wages, further employment opportunities & increased consumer spending. There are new job creations expected in every sector including construction, agriculture, public services etc. All things that keep our Saskatchewan economic growth prospects healthy!
This is no surprise as we see new Migration into Saskatchewan both from other provinces as well as other countries with just less than 16,000 new migrants in 2012 into Saskatchewan!
CMHC is forecasting the Resale market to remain strong in Saskatchewan, the average home value in Saskatoon is at approximately $400,000.00. It’s always a very informative morning to go and be a part of these meetings!
CMHC works hard throughout the year collecting this data to provide for us, they are forecasting that rates will stay flat and stable throughout the end of 2013 and into 2014 with slight increases in 2014.
Overall there have been no huge spikes since 2008 to negatively affect the housing market, things are staying consistent overall & leads to positive economic forecasting for the province as a whole.
