Congratulations Jess Tetu owner of Just For you Day Spa and Lia Reese

Congratulation to Trusted partner Jess Tetu on the opening of her 4th Just For You Day Spa and her first retail location for Lia Reese Canada. Sara, the Trusted founder, wrote the following article about Jess and why, at Trusted, we encourage you to have the mindset of - Don't just try local, BUY local.

A Saskatchewan Success Story

Recently,  I had the pleasure of attending the soft launch of the new Just For You Day Spa in Saskatoon. This spa is the 2nd Saskatoon location and is nestled on the corner of 33rd and Quebec. I thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing hot stone massage in beautiful surroundings, then spent some time relaxing in the stylish and cosy lounge.
After a cup of tea, it was time to shop at the new retail store for Lia Reese,  which is a beautiful little store connected to the spa.

The location design is all Jess’s inspiration, and she is extremely hands on. I found out a while ago that she is the queen of repurposing and personally creates many of the gorgeous pieces of furniture and decor in the spas!

This spa is the third location that Jess has opened in the last 6 years. That in itself is something to be in awe of, especially when you consider that she is a young entrepreneur and wife juggling motherhood and life, also, she only recently turned 30!

I first met Jess just over 7 years ago, at the time she was considering opening up her second Just For You location in Regina. A huge leap of faith and an enormous undertaking. It has been a roaring success in the Queen City, and  I believe, is still the largest spa in Saskatchewan.

Jess's business has grown so much, and she now employs over 100! As an entrepreneur myself, who employs 7 people, I can't imagine! What an enormous responsibility - over 100 families, relying on your business and their pay cheque for their bills and kids extracurricular activities. How would it feel to know your everyday decisions and risks in business could impact so many lives? Jess takes it all in her stride with grace, and is, by all accounts, a fair and generous employer and a thoughtful leader.

Lia Reese was added to her portfolio in recent years. This is her baby, and something Jess feels she created from scratch! Lia Reese is a cosmetic and makeup line manufactured in Canada. It is a pure Saskatchewan product, the names of the nail polishes are witty takes on our small town and city names, lipsticks are named after women who Jess loves and been inspired by, the marketing imagery features Elly Mayday. A successful,  international plus-size model who comes from Jess's hometown of Craik, SK - Elly is a cancer survivor and a gorgeous and inspiring warrior woman in her own right.
I think you can agree; there really couldn't be a better brand ambassador for Lia Reese Canada!
The products, created with the utmost care are beautifully packaged, I strongly urge you to try them for yourself!

Jess Tetu was not born into vast wealth and privilege, she came from humble beginnings and overcame adversity at a young age. She is driven to succeed, and her hard work has been recognized. Jess is the recipient of multiple entrepreneurship awards, including YWCA Saskatoon Women of Distinction Award and ABEX Young Entrepreneur of the year award. Jess is also extremely community-minded, she volunteers a staggering amount of time and resources helping those in need, supporting local businesses and non-profits. Most recently she founded 4seventyone Recovery Resources - a non-profit assisting families battling addiction.

In closing, ladies (and gents), I challenge you to use the last of the international brands of makeup and skincare. You know,  the items on your dresser or cluttering up your bathroom vanity. Instead, support a local woman whose products are just as good (if not better), and who is positively impacting the local economy and our community across Saskatchewan in so many ways!  Swing by the new store in person to try,  or directly buy online at liareese.com. Check out the new Just For You Day Spa for yourself, you deserve a visit!

This is a picture taken next to my bathroom sink, I have been a fan of Lia Reese everything for a few years and I do have my favourites!

Congratulations Jess, I am proud to be a fan, a friend, and to have you in our Trusted community of local businesses run with integrity!   Sara

LIA REESE CANADA

Just For You Day Spa & Gift Studio Owner Jess Tetu talks about her line of luxury make up and skin care products.

Revolutionizing Canadian beauty with trendsetting cosmetics, award winning botanical skin care, luxurious body care, simple step men’s skin & shave care, and professional skin & makeup training.

How did you get started?

After 15 years in the spa industry, & owning two award winning Saskatchewan day spas, my desire and deep interest in the skin beauty industry led me to create a brand representing my passion for the exciting industry.

What inspires you?

Strong, independent women are my most admirable influence in business. They inspire me to work hard, and believe in myself. I have several inspirational people in my life, almost too many to list. My mother, who worked sometimes three jobs when I was a child, to provide for our family; my sister who has taught me how to problem solve even the most difficult situations; my grandmother who first taught me how to do makeup and to always take a little time to “glam” yourself up! I use to LOVE watching her apply her makeup, and to this day – she has hands down the more gorgeous natural nails that look like they are straight out of a magazine ad! My group of entrepreneurial friends who work together to constantly support each other! Jor, Shan, and many others. My team of managers keep me going every day, and my family supports my larger than life big dreams!

What is your idea of a Modern Woman?

A modern woman to me is a woman who displays confidence, is courageous, independent, believes in herself & is respected by others! Not to mention a modern woman generally rocks the newest trends, and is current in her social surroundings!

What tips can you give to aspiring women entrepreneurs?

This is the question I get asked most often in my career as an entrepreneur.  My advice is this – Truly believe that you can accomplish what you set out to, and others will believe it too!   Make a very detailed plan on how you will accomplish your success and stick to the plan! Speak to professionals and other entrepreneurs, this advice is priceless! Do your homework, and be prepared to give it all you got to see your dreams come true! Most importantly – never stop believing in yourself!

What is one piece of advice you would give yourself looking back?

To not sweat the small stuff! I put so much sweat and tears into starting my businesses, that I took even the smallest things to heart and it really took it’s toll on me emotionally. If I knew then what I know now, it’s that if you make a mistake you can use it as a learning tool and become a great problem solver. It will be ok. You will get through it, and you can’t let it break you down and keep you from pursuing your dreams. You will make mistakes, it’s inevitable. You are human afterall, but it will be ok.  Keep working hard and focus on a solution and learn from the mistake!

What is in the future for Lia Reese Canada?

Lia Reese Canada will be a Canada wide brand by 2017. We are working to add several new exciting items to the brand and within a few years we hope to have a flag ship store carrying just LR brands!! (Available now online and in select salon/spas)

What would we find you doing in your free time?

Is there such a thing for an entrepreneur or a serial entrepreneur? – just kidding! When I’m not busy with Lia Reese Canada I’m running between my two day spas, Just For You Day Spa Regina and Saskatoon. I have three amazing children who are the light of my life. They generally keep me running between hockey and gymnastics, swim & all things kid related! I am extremely committed to giving back to my community as well, so you’ll often find me volunteering, donating, or attending charity events all over SK.

Who is someone that you find is a role model for women in business?

I think fabulous celebrities like Oprah, and Ellen are obvious choices, I commend their incredible charitable connections to celebrity. I also think fabulous women like Rachel Mielke with Hilberg & Berk make Saskatchewan proud for what she does representing women. I also would say one of my closest friends Aly, we have been best friends since kindergarten, who immediately following her son’s birth was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of breast cancer, she is 34 years old.  She is an incredible role model to women as she has shown amazing strength through this ordeal.  She is a wonderful teacher who offers education to young women interested in the beauty industry, and despite all of this happening in her life, she still manages the time to support me in my entrepreneurial journey. I have named one of my Lia Reese Cosmetics Lip Glosses after her! ALY is available at liareese.com, with $5 from each “ALY” gloss sold going to breast cancer research!

Do you think having a mentor is valuable both while you’re starting out and even after you are more experienced?

I absolutely do! I had a few mentors, and I truly believe they are what got me through many rough moments! Their personal opinions and experiences are priceless pieces of advice for a newbie starting out. I was like a sponge, soaking up as much as I could from them! It’s great to keep working with them, to maintain that constant support, and to then offer that support yourself when you find success! I offer mentorship to multiple new business owners or entrepreneurs, in not only my industry but those starting out needing the “how to’s” of getting started!

Do you feel a strong sense of community among business woman and female entrepreneurs in Saskatoon and in Saskatchewan?

I am actually blown away by how supportive business women in Saskatchewan are! So many reach out to me, and we have become almost a close little group of women with similar lives! Saskatoon and Saskatchewan is such a fantastic place to live if you are opening your own business, because not only are they supportive of new ideas, and promoting shopping local, but this province just truly believes in supporting their own! It certainly makes me proud to be Sask born and Raised

Just For You Day Spa your Trusted Saskatoon Spa answer some great questions - Part 3

Owner, Jessica Tetu of Just For You Day Spa & Gift Studio, along with her team of dedicated professionals, provide a tranquil Saskatoon spa experience with over 2700 square feet of stunning spa space.

This award winning Saskatoon Spa with its laid back, warm, elegant environment offers a breadth of a truly exceptional spa experience for woman and men. Just For You Day Spa & Gift Studio offers outstanding skin and body therapies, in depth consultations and the tools & knowledge to become your own “spa therapist” at home.

Here Jess answers some great questions - Part 3:

Q: Kim Korktie Hartsook: Is it important to use skin care products from the same line or can you mix and match from different product lines?

A: The important thing is that you are indeed following a home care regimen for your skin! The strength and active ingredients in professional products can differ, therefore I would not suggest combining products without consulting a professional first. Some ingredients may counteract each other and hinder the purpose of the product. Some could even cause adverse reactions. Your skin care professional will generally suggest using a home care regimen from one particular line to ensure the best results are achieved.

Q: Marjorie Smith: If my babysitter cancels, is it taboo to bring my baby along while I get spa services?

A: Although some spas may be set up to allow proper space for mom and baby, I do not suggest it. Spa time is generally a very precious time for mothers (or fathers) to enjoy some time away from their little people. To maintain the tranquil, calming experience a spa is designed to offer all of its guests, many spas have restrictions for babies or small children. Having children in the spa could also be a safety concern. Most spas house hot wax, sterilizing and disinfecting chemicals, sharp medical instruments, and even unsupervised pool areas. To experience the best spa visit you can, I definitely suggest finding a helpful sitter and enjoying your relaxation time in peace and quiet! After all…don’t busy moms deserve a little me time too?

Q: Sonja Jan: Am I supposed to be naked for a massage and will the massage therapist be there when I undress?

A: Every massage therapist may differ from spa to spa, however, the comfort of their client should always be of the utmost importance. I suggest requesting a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) to ensure your service provider is qualified and professional.
Generally, your therapist will step out of the room for your privacy while you undress and make yourself comfortable on the treatment table. You may choose to undress fully or keep undergarments on if this makes you more comfortable. Your therapist should always knock upon re-entering the room to perform your massage and will continue to keep you draped appropriately through your treatment to avoid any discomfort. Following your treatment, your therapist will leave the room for you to re-dress and enter only when you have completed.

Just For You Day Spa your Trusted Saskatoon Spa answer some great questions - Part 2

Here Jess answers some great questions - Part 2:

Q: Renee T: Are there any creams/treatments that actually fade age spots? (Besides prevention with sunscreen and avoiding the sun).

A: Prevention really is key, however, I suggest having microdermabrasion treatments done, specifically focusing on the problem areas, followed by applying a lightening serum and cream diligently at home. It is very important to remember to continue with, and always apply sunscreen or the hyper pigmented areas will quickly return and darken. Products to try: Lia Reese Brightening Apple Stem Cell Serum - $85 or Illuminating Apple Stem Cell Cream - $60. (liareese.com)

Q: Jennifer G: My Skin is really dry at this time of year, and no matter what I put on it, nothing helps! What are your recommendations?

A: It’s important to update your skin care regime with season changes. I would suggest a heavier cream containing Hyaluronic Acid (to encourage moisture retention), or a cream containing Vitamin C to be applied before bed, to lock in hydration and provide repair to dry or de-hydrated skin. A light hydrating cream is great during the day, followed by sunscreen (even in the winter) and avoid creams or makeup with mineral oil that prevent the skin from breathing, or contain alcohol that dries! Try & exfoliate once a week to remove dry, dead skin cells and follow with a hydrating mask to really boost the skin’s moisture levels! Products to try: Hydra + DMHE Intensive Moisturizer - $55 (with Vitamin C ), or O2 Restoring Cream - $60 (with Hyaluronic Acid) , C Factor Cream - $65 (with Vitamin C ), BHA / Enzyme Micro Polish - $80 (Once a week - Exfoliant ), & Collagen Infusion Mask - $55 (Once a week – Hydrating Treatment Mask).(liareese.com)

Q: Paige F: Is there anything specific we can do before and/or after a pedicure to help our feet (other than pumice stone, etc)?

A: To maintain healthy heels use a sanitized foot file after a foot soak or during a bath. Keep nails trimmed straight across to avoid ingrown toenails, and for full hydration or maintenance of the feet be sure to follow with a cream suitable for your specific concerns! (Callus, cracks, sweating feet, peeling skin, bad circulation etc). TIP *Be careful not to remove too much callus when filing, or your skin will actually produce more callus in response for protection!

When time permits, I suggest letting the pro’s take care of you! Invest in a professional pedicure service and let those sensitive feet be pampered!

Products to try: Dannyco wooden foot files $9.99 & Gehwol callus cream $21. (gehwolcanada.ca) (justforyoudayspa.com)
